Note: When the singular is used it is usually referring to the church of God in a universal way or a singular local church. A single church geographically represents a city (See Titus 1:5 ex. Thessalonica, Ephesus). The plural 'churches' refers to a group of local churches such as exist in a territory (ex. Galatia, Asia) or category (churches of the Gentiles).

Ephesians is a doctrinal epistle, Philippians a reproof epistle (meaning - 'oops that's not it' the doctrine is not being applied to practice in the right way) and Colossians a correctional epistle (here's the right way.) Definition

A unique Greek word, used 11 of its 12 New Testament occurrences in the Book of Acts, helps us understand the uniqueness of the Christian community. Homothumadon is a compound of two words meaning to "rush along" and "in unison". The image is almost musical; a number of notes are sounded which, while different, harmonize in pitch and tone. As the instruments of a great concert under the direction of a concert master, so the Holy Spirit blends together the lives of members of Christ's church.
