Faith - pistis

Pistis - Strong's #4102
  • conviction of the truth of anything, belief; in the NT of a conviction or belief respecting man's relationship to God and divine things, generally with the included idea of trust and holy fervour born of faith and joined with it
  • relating to God
  • the conviction that God exists and is the creator and ruler of all       things, the provider and bestower of eternal salvation through Christ
  • relating to Christ
  • a strong and welcome conviction or belief that Jesus is the Messiah, through whom we obtain eternal salvation in the kingdom of God
  • the religious beliefs of Christians
  • belief with the predominate idea of trust (or confidence) whether in God or in Christ, springing from faith in the same
  • fidelity, faithfulness 
  • the character of one who can be relied on

Pistis is used 40 times in the book of Romans - 40 means (trial, probation, testing)

1.   Romans 1:5 By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name: 
2.   Romans 1:8 First , I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world. 
3.   Romans 1:12
 That is , that I may be comforted together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me. 
4-6 Romans 1:17
 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written , The just shall live by faith. 
7.   Romans 3:3
 For what if some did not believe ? shall their unbelief make the faith of God  without effect ? 
8.   Romans 3:22
Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe : for there is no difference: 
9.   Romans 3:25Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past , through the forbearance of God;

Seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and   uncircumcision through faith. 
15. Romans 3:31 Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid : yea, we establish the law.

But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. 
17. Romans 4:9 Cometh this blessedness then upon the circumcision only, or upon the uncircumcision also? for we say that faith was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness.

For if they which are of the law be heirs, faith is made void , and the promise made of  none effect :

Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all, 
24. Romans 4:19 And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead , when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara's womb:

40. Romans 16:26 But now is made manifest , and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith
